What a beautiful workday we had today! Those called to build and represent Evergreen
were: Loren Watterson, Stan Koziol, Bob Andrews, David Bryant, Herman Knieriem, and
Mary Kay Tripodi. But what everyone really came for, including the twenty UNC students,
was the luncheon spread catered and delivered to the site by Trish Gardner with provisions
from Darcy Knight, Carolyn Watterson, and Marion Haywood.
Evergreen's workdays are complete, however, if anyone is interested, there will be a final,
come as you are, workday this Saturday to make some finishing touches for the dedication.
If you are interested in attending the dedication, scheduled for 11:00 AM on September 29, please
contact Stan Koziol, 260-3518.
The following recap was sent out by Debby from Chatham Habitat for Humanity:
Good Evening Brothers & Sisters,
The folks from Evergreen UMC came out for their second round of Apostle Building. The weather
was perfect! We had additional volunteers from UNC and of course our homeowner families. It
was quite a day. One volunteer came and got me and said that there was something very unusual
"going on" around behind the house. He seemed very concerned as he led me to the rear of the
house. The volunteer went on to say that: this situation was completely "un-natural." As we
came around the corner of the house I saw a man and a woman. They were laughing and clearly
having a good time as they went about their work. He pointed to them and then said to
me.. When is the last time you saw that? Those two are married!
We had a good laugh. It was a good day for God's people (even the married ones) to be out doing God's work.
I Hope You Have a Blessed Day!

Carlos and Celsa live in a home in Goldston with their three children Ana who is thirteen, Carlos
who is 3 and Anthony who is 1. They heard about Chatham Habitat through a friend and other
neighbors who knew about the organization. The home they are currently in has many structural
problems and the family has discussed all of them with their landlord, however it is very difficult
to get him to make any repairs. The main problem with the home is the floor system. Throughout the
whole house the flooring panels are rotted. It is especially bad in the kitchen and the bathrooms
where the panels have almost rotted to the point of falling through to the crawlspace below. It is
also obvious that the house has had a substantial amount of shifting. Some of the doorways are crooked
and will not allow the doors to close completely, and there is a drastic slant to the kitchen floor.
There are also spots throughout the house in the ceiling where water has leaked through and damaged
the ceiling.
The wiring throughout the house does not function well and the house does not have any central heat or air. They
use window AC units and small electric heaters to cool and heat the home. A couple of the windows in the
home do not close all the way, allowing air to enter the home. There are two bathrooms in the home, however
only one of them is functional, forcing the whole family to share the one tiny bathroom with a structurally
weak floor system.
Carlos has worked at United Furniture Industries in Ramseur for two and a half years. The family’s friends
and local family members as well as Church members from St. Julia’s in Siler City will help them build their new
home. In their spare time they like to teach Bible classes at Church and participate in outdoor activities
such as playing sports.
