Clover Garden’s Revival Meetings
5/10/06
|
Clover Garden United Methodist Church is a small
church in a beautiful rural setting, about 10 west
of Chapel Hill. It has about 85 members on roll.
There is a well kept cemetery, that most likely goes
back to the Civil War period.
In a 3-night revival meeting at Clover Garden, their
pastor, Molly Shivers, preached on the first night
(Sunday, May 7) on II Corinthians 5:17-21. She
emphasized that a New Creation has a new seeing
ability, to see in faith. The New Life using this
new vision enables Christians to be ambassadors for
Christ. The University UMC hand bells choir
presented special music
On Tuesday, Russell Stott, retired minister
(Evergreen Charge Conference) preached on Isaiah
43:18-19,
24b-25, giving several examples of how
forgiveness from God and forgiveness of each other
enables the outpouring of God’s reviving grace that
heals our deepest wounds. Often the most difficult
form of forgiveness is self-forgiveness, which is a
requisite for joyful New Life. Molly Shivers sang a
solo.
On Wednesday, Joy MacVane, former pastor of
Evergreen, preached on John 3:3-6, 16-17. Her
vibrant message included a personal testimony of how
her life was transformed by a difficult-to-explain
experience of Jesus. The Clover Garden choir
presented special music.
Several members of Evergreen attended the services.
